Tyler Perry: Giving Your Best to Everyone Else?

(Photo courtesy of Yahoo and Best Life)

I recently read a quote in Tyler Perry’s newsletter which made me stop in my tracks and I shared with all my social media friends. Are you following me?

The quote talks about how important it is to “Stay in the climb.” I tweeted this quote on twitter.com/thebrandnewmom.

Anyway, the meaning is basically that when you think you are not moving, not accomplishing your goal, and on the verge of giving up — something amazing happens because all this time you remained diligent with your vision and you stayed in the climb.

BNM, stay in the climb today – continue to strive to renew your personal brand and do what it is you really want to do for your part II (next chapter). You are closer than  you know.

See ‘Good Deeds’ Awe Inspiring

Tyler Perry - The Ultimate Entrepreneur

It doesn’t matter who you are and what you have accomplished – motivation can wane from time to time.

This past weekend, I went to see Tyler Perry’s ‘Good Deeds’ (debut #2 at the box-office) and it was just what I needed – #MoreMotivation.

Yes – the movie is a tad long, however, the dose of empowerment and feel good with a touch of #WORD was all that I needed to continue my #DREAM.

Let’s face it – you can never have enough motivation and to see Tyler Perry Studios on the screen encourages you to take your business game to the next level and beyond.

So, go out and see ‘Good Deeds’ and know that all is possible and seeing the vision for self, coupled with belief is a winning combination.

Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse is Really the Worst (so far)!

For Better or Worse needs some tweaking

I love me some Tyler Perry!

He is a trailblazer; writer, producer, entrepreneur and employs Black and Caucasian actors on a grand scale; struck an unprecedented deal with Turner Broadcasting for his sitcoms; and, let’s not forget Brand Madea.

I enjoyed the movie Why Did I Get Married (Part 1 & 2)? The movie truly presented the good, bad and ugly of marriage with class and candor.

With that being said, I was disappointed with Tyler Perry’s ‘For Better or Worse’ on TBS last Friday, which is loosely based on Why Did I Get Married? Continue reading

When You Journal … Dreams Come True

My besties -- Sharron, Tanya and Sue

Hello BNM,

Just got back from a fantabulous (made up word) Chicago trip.

Not only did I have an amazing outer-body experience at the farewell taping for the Oprah Winfrey show, I also managed to score an interview on Fox (Chicago) and CNN.com. Talk about swerving!

I always say, you gotta write stuff down (in your journal), leave your house, and be in the moment for the opportunity to present itself. Don’t you agree?

Please take a minute to read my post on BlackEnterprise.com about my Big “O” experience.

A room filled with 14,000 ultimate fans and A-list celebrities felt intimate, personal, hypnotic, and authentically ordained. Fans traveled far and near to be a part of the magical day: The final taping of Oprah Winfrey’s talk show in Chicago on Tuesday. From Belgium, South Dakota, Seattle, New Jersey, Baltimore, Atlanta and Italy–folks hugged, gasped and cheered like family celebrating history. I was one of those lucky people, having scored a pair of coveted tickets just weeks before. Click here to read more.

For Colored Girls – BNM Movie Review By Cynthia Levy Mendoza

Tyler Perry’s adaptation of For Colored Girls made $20 million (that’s how much it cost to make, all profit from here) and held the respective #3 position at the box-office.

Continue to support our Colored Girls.

For Colored Girls - In Theatres Now

Running Away from US, My Interpretation of Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls

The question “What does it mean to be a Black woman,” is something all of us have asked ourselves at one time, or another, in our lives.  Tyler Perry’s latest flick, “For Colored Girls, has gotten me one step closer to answering that question.

The movie was an inspiring collection of the lives of nine Black women that represent the struggles and sisterly connections that detail the lives of us all.

Thandie Newton, Kimberly Elise and Janet Jackson gave the most outstanding performances, in my opinion.  While I’ve always been aware of Elise’s acting chops (since “Set it Off”), Newton and Jackson kept my eyes and ears wanting more.  And of course, the ever-astounding Phylicia Rashad and Loretta Devine provided the glue that held the movie together. Anika Noni Rose and Tessa Thompson provided the sweetness that made the story believable.

Motivating our Men Toward Intimacy by Cynthia Levy-Mendoza

Tyler Perry on Oprah

Hey BNM,  most of you have probably already seen or heard about Tyler Perry’s big reveal to the big “O” last week, or at least caught the highlights.

This man, who has in many ways become the Steven Spielberg of the Black community, detailed to Oprah the molestation and beatings that plagued his childhood.

He talked about how the abuse led to his yearning for intimacy and the inability to cultivate a true relationship. Deepness!

Now many of our husbands/boyfriends may not have been molested or beaten as children, but this got me thinking about a man’s yearning for intimacy.

Many of our men were raised in the era of “men don’t cry,” “suck it up” and “be a strong man”  era.

This often leads to a stifling of true intimacy for men, and unrealistic expectations from women about male intimacy.

So, here are a few tips on getting him motivated to get a little closer with you:

  • 1) Watch your tone.  Yes, men are just as sensitive as women are.
  • Tyler Perry revealed during the “O” interview that men are just as vulnerable during intimate interactions as women are.  So don’t  scold your man when he’s not saying or doing exactly what you want.
  • 2) Rewards are better than criticism. Rather than pointing out that he never holds your hand during a movie, lovingly grab his hand and reward him with a kiss when he reciprocates next time.
  • 3) Walk the walk, and shut-up about it. Don’t tell your man you want to be intimate, show him.  If the kids are cramping your regular date night style — surprise him when the timing is right.

Just remember, neither of you were perfect on the day you got married.

And for many men the expectations of marriage today are not the same as they were back in the days — so, make up your own set of rules.

BNM, what do you think?
