For Certain I Know This: Beauty is Simple

Beauty is real simple

As I prepare to say goodbye to grandma and spend time with family in Florida – all I can say is thank you for loving me each day.

If you get a moment … please take a moment to read some of the post, comment and spread the word about The Brand New Mommy!

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Heavy D, Smokin’ Joe Frazier, Conrad Murray, The Duggars and Layaway!

Heavy D, Smokin’ Joe Frazier, Conrad Murray, The Duggars and Layaway!

It’s been a week of life unpredictability and random thoughts, is it okay if I share my musings thus far?

R.I.P. Dwight Myers aka Heavy D! I met Heavy D when I worked in the entertainment industry and he was always smiling and encouraging.
Heavy D lived his passion — from an entertainer to music executive to actor. He was always inspired!

Thanks for leaving a legacy of great upbeat friendly rhythms, which became the soundtrack of my college and adult life.

Faith, Love, Trust – You Can Beat It.

My sister and her miracle

I am an Auntie and so excited.

My sister, Nyla, gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl in the midst of the blizzard — welcome Annorah Rose Lee.

She beat cancer nine years ago and was told she might never be able to conceive after the chemo.

God had plans that (even) the doctors didn’t know about.

Regardless of the outcome, decision, prognosis … know that you can beat anything.

When you think you have given all you have — stop giving and turn it all over to a higher power and have faith, love, and trust.

Thanks Lady Annorah for letting us know that God’s plans are always bigger and better than mankind.

Congrats to Nyla and Garth for your blessing and helping us to remember the true meaning of faith.

Here’s to 2011!

Are You Breathing?

Pure Relaxation and Breathing Post Massage

It sounds simple but many of us are not breathing — simply moving.

Is that you?

Breathing takes time; each conscious inhalation and exhalation has to be deliberate and when we take the time to do it, life is enjoyed, blissful, and purposeful and greatness is actualized.

Everyone expects much from The Brand New Mommy and Daddy; however, we must tell people that we need a moment to breathe.

Yesterday, I went and got a massage from Surreal Serenity and was completely turned out. For two plus hours I was breathing in perfect health; confidence, love, life, beauty, and pampering my core — that one session gave me a night of pure bliss and great sleep.

My gift to self from now on is to simply breathe and get a massage once a month for preservation.

Let’s do it together — breathe in, hold it, and release all those toxins. Do this again at least 3 times to get back to center.

Sending Brand New Mommy Love!

i am a colored girl

For Colored Girls ....

I am a colored girl.

Proud. Stressed. Happy. Encouraged. Supportive. Overwhelmed. Successful. Passionate. Hungry.

With all that said – I loved Tyler Perry’s adaptation of Ntozake Shange riveting play.

Yes, I too try to celebrate and understand all the complexities from the Obie Award-winning play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.

Each frame of the movie became more captivating and I felt my skin simply exfoliate all the pain, joy, cries, and humility of each ‘Colored’ girl  — because that’s our story. Complicated. Valiant. Hopeful. Forgiving.

Witnessing the phenomenally talented and beautiful actors on the screen was mind blowing and historical. Each scene became more cathartic for this colored girl.

I cherish the feeling of being colored each day, and strive to break society’s stigma of what it means to be a colored girl.

My little girl is three and she must over-stand that being a colored girl is a fabulous gift wrapped without the bow and not in a box.

In doing so I must love, understand, appreciate, empower, share, take off my cape, and simply be authentic.

No perfection here – just a woman living her purpose, keeping her eyes on the prize and learning to accept rejection and keep it moving.

This thing called life it always easy.

Happy Candy Day!

Sofia as "Buddy" from Dinosaur Train - Costume #1

Sofie's Girls

Sebbie's Walking Dead

Not Another Photo!

My family loves to celebrate this zany and creative day called Halloween.

This year was no different. We decorated the house (inside and out) with skeletons, skulls, big chains, scarecrow, pumpkins, and so many crazy things. It was great to see the children really appreciate the gesture and share in the spirit of FUN.

Lately it seems that adults (presently company included) forgot how to have fun —  this weekend made it all different.

ps: You might be thinking, why does Sofia have two costumes? Real simple — she loves Buddy from Dinosaur Train on PBS (another fantastic product from The Jim Henson Company) and being a girlie Princess. Life is about having options at every age. Right?
