Your Insanity is Power!

Loved this when I saw it on http://finsecwomen.com.au/how-to-follow-your-bliss/

‘Brand’ New Mommy!

Let’s be real – it’s not easy to live your best when reality smacks you in the face each day. Recently, I heard Pastor Miriam Niles, keynote speaker at the Girl Talk Unplugged conference say, “You insanity is your power when you give it a voice to be heard; the feelings you hide are truly what you feel.”

5 WAYS TO STAY MENTALLY HEALTHY (from ‘Brand’ New Mommy book)

•Prayer and Meditation.

•Authenticity. Be you and tell the truth.

•Stop striving for perfection, it’s doesn’t exist.

•Don’t judge. Your scale of excellence is just that, your scale.

•Love your reflection.

•Shut the crap down immediately when it enters your mind. Continue reading

Why Downsizing thoughts can set you free

I saw an amazing quote when I was writing my book and it inspired me to stop making everything so hard and enjoy the process.

“Transformation also means looking for ways to stop pushing so hard professionally or inviting so much stress”

Too Many Hustles Can Cause Crisis

As long as I could remember, I was always multi-tasking.

I had so many jobs that the mere thought makes my head spin – from lemonade stand, selling cupcakes and beaded handbags from Thailand to a professional career, this sister was always working and doing too much at an early age.

It should be no surprise that the same working too hard caused me to be diagnosed with Placenta Previa 7 months into my pregnancy and bed rest for 6 weeks.

You would think with all that hustling I would be a millionaire by now. No such luck yet. Continue reading

Sister Girls: Celebrate & Love the Magic

A true girlfriend is a rare gem and if you are blessed – you will have a few really really good ones. Let’s face it, not all girlfriends are good … like not all Black folks are Black.

12 years ago, I met Aisha, Syreeta and Jill through work and we slowly became friends.

When I first met them it was my intention not to become too close since we were all working together (why do we do that?) and did not want to co-mingle work and friendship.

I was successful for two years keeping them in a “box” and then we went on a retreat together in the deep woods of West Virginia and I allowed my wall to collapse. Continue reading

Jill Scott Talks Dating, Loving and New Beginnings

Jill Scott Summer Tour

Recently spoke with Jill Scott, one of my fave BNM about life, love, and kicking losers to the curb.

I love her honesty and take no prisoner approach and at a recent chat over tea she continued to bask and glow about her life, love, career, parenting and new beginnings.

My girl is on TOP with a fabulous healthy body, the album ‘Light of the Sun’ entered the coveted Billboard chart at #1 and her summer tour sponsored by Budweiser is set to kickoff July 26th in Boston. Got tix?

Let’s just say she is DATING (up) and being treated like the DOPE Queen she is. Jill says, “I’m taking my time and getting to know the person before I even think about the next step.

That’s right … take it slow and enjoy your new found swag.

50 Cent Makes Penny Comment about Jill Scott; Kelly Price Talks Body Image

50 Cent Makes A Penny Comment

In the world of social media negativity another celebrity has shown an ugly side.

Perhaps, you’ve read how 50 made an unnecessary comment about Jill Scott’s recent weight loss and compared her to a lousy station wagon.

Trust me when I say it’s challenging to lose weight and Jill is looking pretty fabulous these days as a woman renewing and redefining her personal brand.

The bigger question truly is the images of beauty which society has perpetuated for years: skinny/emaciated versus healthy-looking (the average American woman is a size 10). As you watch videos or the big screen it’s rare to see a curvaceous woman being celebrated by a lead male singer or actor. And you ask why our girls have issues as it relates to beauty?
