Hello, I was just thinking about how digital media has allowed us all to channel our style and share information.
Here is the show that started it all for me three years ago in Janet’s attic,‘Real Talk’ with Janet & Karen, your entertainment/lifestyle/health/motivational mommy moment web-series starring two ladies reinventing one moment at a time.
Your Health Mate…Having a Partner to Help You in Getting Healthy
Guest Post by Donna McElroy
Sometimes an unexpected diagnosis or a questionable test result may lead one to question their choice of doctor, or even health insurance provider for that matter.
So many of the illnesses we hear of that are affecting our loved ones are chronic conditions that are likely manageable, with strict adherence to a prescribed drug regiment, but not curable; or require additional testing, as well as potentially significant financial commitments and time to meet with additional health professionals. This type of news makes it very easy for anyone to become completely overwhelmed just thinking of the possibilities and outcomes, as well as totally stressed out with trying to understand how to get better while maintaining a lifestyle that isn’t upset too much by this new challenge. Looking to recharge and get all your greens/vegetables in one shot?
BNM, it’s time to try wheatgrass. Trust me, you will love it.
What are the Nutrients in Wheatgrass?
Wheatgrass contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B8, and B12; C, E and K and all eight essential amino acids as well as thirteen of the sixteen non-essential amino acids. A single teaspoon of wheatgrass juice has only ten calories and almost a whole gram of protein. It also contains 8mcg of iodine, 15mg of calcium ,879 mcg of iron and 62mcg of zinc. Wheatgrass also contains Superoxide Dismutase (SOD). Because of the high content of chlorophyll, wheatgrass is believed to assist in blood flow, improve digestion and boost the overall detoxification of the body. Some studies have also shown that diets high in chlorophyll are related to lower incidences of colon cancer.
What are the Health Benefits of Wheatgrass?
Wheatgrass has a number of health benefits because of its high chlorophyll content. It can relieve allergies and clear up congestion. This also helps combat and prevent cold symptoms. In topical form it can ease the pain of minor burns and stings as well as sunburn. It is believed to help the body eliminate toxins, particularly those found in fluoridated water. It also reduces bad breath and body odor. Chlorophyll is also believed to have the ability to cure anemia, stimulating normal red blood cell count. Wheatgrass juice is high in beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A. A study conducted by Dr. Chiu-nan Lai, Ph.D., at the University of Texas Cancer Center, Dept. of Biology in Houston, Texas, showed that chlorophyll can prevent certain types of cancer. Wheatgrass also helps prevent the build-up of bacteria.
BNM, I attended the “Loving Your Hair with Natural Care” workshop at Karen’s Body Beautiful (Brooklyn, NY) facilitated by the natural celebrity hairstylist Felicia Leatherwood (Jill Scott, Brenda Russell, Tamiko Fraser (Maybelline Cover model), Cedric The Entertainer, Anthony Anderson and so on.
More and more I see everyone wanting to turn back the aging process with cosmetic enhancement and not hard work.
Recently, I read an article and saw a video I did with celebrity trainerMark Jenkins talking about how if you simply add a 30 minutes workout to your day you are adding years to your life AND lowering cholesterol, blood pressure, and easing stress. Sounds good to me!

Although, my abs are not flat, it’s much smaller than it was six months ago and I did wear a sexy bathing suit this summer. Let’s take one step each day to simply feel and look better — we deserve it!
Here are some real tips from the Kimberly Garrison, TBNM Health/Wellness contributor:
Everyone wants to know how to get a tight sexy mid-section. Well, I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is it’s never to late. If you start and stick with a comprehensive program you can see a ripple or two or at least lose a few inches in your mid-section in 6 to 8 weeks. The bad news is if you think doing 100′s of crunches and ab exercises is the ticket to sexy flat abs – then think again. You can literally do 1000’s of ab exercises per day and never see the slightest bit of tone or definition. Continue reading →
