‘Brand’ New Mom: Stop Giving Away your Expertise

Moms, stop giving away your expertise and talent for free.

The economic landscape is screaming for moms, however, when one of us second-guesses our expertise and decides to giveaway talent, brain trust, and personality it devalues the MOM BRAND.

At one time, I was so happy to be included and would have given away the kitchen sink, but FREE can’t pay the mortgage or bills. Stop the pro bono.

Pro bono is defined as services done or donated without charge.

Lately, I’ve been meeting moms who are simply happy to get an invitation/product review while giving away their talents for free. Stop!

We must declare a value on our talent and make it work. What is the compensation needed to share your talent? Not all compensation is monetary; you can also consider the barter agreement when mutually beneficial.

BNM, let’s make a covenant that we will only agree to a certain amount of pro bono gigs/opportunities per year.

Motherhood is a sisterhood and we must be one another’s keeper. Reinvention is not easy, but we must not forget our talent pre and post motherhood. Starting today lets determine our worth at fair market value and create the pricing menu for our services.

How many pro bono events/gigs have you accepted thus far in 2012? Starting today make a plan to secure more paid opportunities and less freebies. Our authenticity is real and should be compensated.
