Hair!
My Achilles heel is real. We have a stormy past but now we are in love (again).
After years of fighting with my hair and allowing self to make excuses for the myriad of styles I decided to say F*** it when I turned 45.
I got a perm and loved it, albeit for a few months.
Yes, the ease and breeze of having a ‘brand’ new look was simply fabulous. Most importantly, I had given self-permission to have fun with my hair. There are times when I feel that being natural for over twenty years made me the poster child for being deep when actually I’m not. I’m simply a woman who prefers natural hair.
My life changed three weeks ago – my thick black hair was over-heated (badly).
When did it happen? It was growing, healthy, moist and super thick.
Did I miscalculate the heat from the blow dryer, curling and flat iron? Or, was it the perm? Where did my thick Oprah-esque hair go?
BNM, your gal’s hair was damaged and extra thirsty. I thought I would simply get a cute pixie and cut out all the damaged hair and start over.
Then I slept and slept some mo’ on my decision. It was time to get the best of both worlds: healthy hair and versatility. I purchased a #hat.
BNM, I’m loving the power of channeling my inner diva/’brand’ new mommy without apologies.
Let me know your thoughts?

Interesting. I’ve been natural for about 5 years now and I’m finally thinking of cutting my shoulder-length tresses. It’s a big decision because I will be cutting quite a bit, but if Tia Mowry can do it, so can I!! #FreeMomma
