Mochas: Less Hustle and More Bliss

Mocha Moms Take a Moment

Ommmm!

It’s a simple word to chant and if done correctly can bring serenity to one’s space, feeling and life.

The Queens/LI Mochas came in with the hustle and bustle of the outside world a few Saturdays ago; stress, children, career, juggling, life balance and working diligently to stay in the moment. Continue reading

Hit or Ms.: Do We Really Need to Have Respect for Adults?

How important is teaching RESPECT?

Good Morning!

Here is a post I penned for Madamenoire.com on manners/respect and the comments have been off the chain. Let me know your thoughts and have a great weekend.

Just like Janet Jackson, please call me Ms. Karen or Mrs. Taylor-Bass, but certainly not Karen. We don’t roll like that if you are a child and under 25.

Is there something in the water or have children become too familiar with grown folks–thinking it’s okay to call us by the first name? Stop the madness; can a momma get a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T?
Respect is the notion of understanding that a high or special regard should be deferred to someone older. There are times when I feel that some kids are simply BeBe Kids dressed in nice gear with no manners.

Please read more here at Mademenoire.com and post a comment and share your perspective.

Tyler Perry: Giving Your Best to Everyone Else?

(Photo courtesy of Yahoo and Best Life)

I recently read a quote in Tyler Perry’s newsletter which made me stop in my tracks and I shared with all my social media friends. Are you following me?

The quote talks about how important it is to “Stay in the climb.” I tweeted this quote on twitter.com/thebrandnewmom.

Anyway, the meaning is basically that when you think you are not moving, not accomplishing your goal, and on the verge of giving up — something amazing happens because all this time you remained diligent with your vision and you stayed in the climb.

BNM, stay in the climb today – continue to strive to renew your personal brand and do what it is you really want to do for your part II (next chapter). You are closer than  you know.

Pam Perry Talks: Finding Mommy Bliss

Pam and Aubrie Perry

No one can tell you what’s its like being a parent.  No amount of books, tapes, seminars or intimate conversations can prepare you for the major life change that happens after the birth of a child.  It’s especially hard for women who have been self-sufficient, self-reliant and independent.  After many years of independence and carefree living (other than a job)…BAM…you now have to shift gears and learn the meaning of unselfishness and sacrifice time, energy and money.

Career women are torn between foregoing their ambitions and relinquishing personal dreams, goals and future plans for diapers, daycare and Disney.

Supermom Is Dead … Kindred The Family Soul

Kindred The Family Soul ... Six Deep

Here’s the scenario.

The phone rings. I answer on speakerphone because one of the twins have removed the battery from the handset and lost it. On the other end is Karen Taylor Bass (my former publicist and “brand” new mommy) asking me to write what I am feeling right now for her blog.

So here goes.

Most people know I’ve got six children and my husband and I have built a successful career in the music industry as – Kindred The Family Soul. It’s fair to say I am a blog waiting to happen.

I often find myself walking the tight rope between two worlds of women: work and stay at home mamas. Both ladies have different philosophies and (might) compete with one another (why I don’t know) for some reason or another. Continue reading

Skin: Best products for your age, race, acne … The DR. is IN

Dr. Tarani Johnson, MD and ME

I know that I need to be better with my face — more facials, longer sleep, better products and more time.  What is a mom to do? — simply do better.

Here is an interview with Dr. Tarani Johnson, MD, one of the best dermatologist in the game and a dear friend of mine.

1) What should women know about their skin in their 20′s 30, 40′s, 50plus?

Salute to Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon’s Mom!

Sybrina Fulton at MSNBC PoliticsNation

Happy Thursday, BNM!

Let’s continue to keep Trayvon Martin’s parents in prayers and praise the justice system for FINALLY charging and arresting George Zimmerman.

I am inspired by the poise, love and power of BNM, Sybrina Fulton, for how she has carried Trayvon’s memory and encouraged us all to stand with her in the pursuit of justice and family.

Watch this clip as she continues to show why trust and belief in God is always #1.

Do something for the child in your life (you don’t have to be a mom) and let them know they matter.

Have a great day and let’s continue to keep the pressure on for #justice!

Women In Their 40′s Are Back In Style … Flaunt it!

Janet Jackson - 40 & Powerful!

BNM, did you hear the big news?

Women in their 40′s are in vogue have been featured on a plethora of covers and I wanted to celebrate them AGAIN!

Meredith Viera (Today Show on NBC) did a piece on the hotness of older women (I’m 45 and you?), however, she seemed as perplexed as me about the piece.

Here is why … I think. Continue reading
