3 Financial Lessons from Brand New Dad, Terrell Owens

Terrell Owens is almost broke after making $80 million

Terrell Owens is friend-less and broke as he stated in the February issue of GQ Magazine.

How did he breeze through $80 million while as a NFL player?

Simply by trusting the wrong people to manage his financial affairs and not paying attention to DETAILS.

Brand Terrell Owens became the epitome of the “winning” Black athlete –always boasting, bashing others and ultimately being alone in the end.

You know my grandmother used to say, “A man can smell two things: success and broke-ness” in her patois tongue. That saying is still true today when you are on the rise.

Vultures love the smell of new money and success and flock away when the bones are dry. That’s what happened to Terrell Owens when he was hot everyone got a piece and now the money has dried up, bills are stacked high, the advisory team is gone. Welcome to business!

3 Money Lessons to learn from Terrell Owens:

1) Follow Oprah. Understand the business, ask questions, do your research and sign every check. You are your OWN keeper.

2) Stop Acting Black! Just because they are our “boys” as childhood does not mean they need to be employed by you without experience/degree. Let’s stop trusting people because they feel familiar, everyone needs to pull their weight in brand building.

3) Play the game smarter. You won’t always be on top; humble self, be a team player and stop believing the hype machine.

4) Authenticity. Do what you gotta do to stay true to self at all times.
